Peer review process
What is peer review?
Peer review is the system used to assess the quality of a manuscript before it is published. All the books and journal articles in WriteUp Books are submitted to an external peer review process.
Even if each book series may adopt peculiar criteria concerning the peer review process, the followings steps are always to be expected:
- the editorial team is responsible of a first evaluation to asses whether the proposal matches scientific standard or not
- the editorial team, together with the series’ editor in chief, identify the referees for the external peer review (single or double-blind)
- the manuscript is submitted anonymously to the referee
- the result of the peer review process is always submitted to the author(s), both anonymous or not.
Who are the referees and what they do
The referees are knowledgeable on the specific topic covered by the book proposal being reviewed. The referees may be academic or independent researchers in the relevant research.
They are expected to evaluate manuscripts for
- originality (i.e. significance of the subject within the research field)
- validity (i.e. the manuscript matches scientific criteria concerning the references, the critical apparatus, proper language and method) o
- significance (i.e. the manuscript provides an original point of view in the international scenario in the relevant area)
If the result of the process reveals positive, the book is accepted. If the results of the process reveals inconsistencies, the author is requested to fix them, and to submit again the book revised. The referees, in agreement with the editor in chief of the series in the relevant area, can confirm or not the publishing of the book.
IN GENERAL
The colophon page of the series, printed in each book, declares the review process the book is underwent to.
The publisher accepts without reservations the evaluation of the referees.

Processo di revisione tra pari
Il nostro catalogo è diviso in collane, ciascuna provvista di un Direttore e di un Comitato scientifico.
SE LA PROPOSTA DI PUBBLICAZIONE PROVIENE DA UN AUTORE ESTERNO ALLA CASA EDITRICE
- L’editore / la redazione invia la proposta a uno o più Direttori di collana, con l’obiettivo di scegliere la futura collana nella quale il volume potrebbe essere pubblicato, in accordo all’argomento del volume stesso.
- Una volta individuata la collana, il Direttore sottopone la proposta al processo di revisione tra pari. I revisori sono membri del Comitato scientifico.
- Se il risultato della revisione è positivo: la proposta è accettata, e il volume pubblicato nella collana.
- Se il risultato della revisione denota incongruenze: l’autore è invitato a risolverle, e a sottoporre di nuovo il volume ai precedenti revisori. Questi ultimi, in accordo con il Direttore, possono confermare o meno la pubblicazione del volume all’interno della collana.
SE LA PROPOSTA DI PUBBLICAZIONE E’ INVIATA DA UNO O PIU’ MEMBRI DI UN COMITATO SCIENTIFICO A UN DIRETTORE DI COLLANA
Le proposte sono in ogni caso sottoposte dal Direttore al processo di revisione tra pari, e almeno a un processo di revisione cieco qualora il Direttore rilevasse la necessità di un parere esterno e terzo.
IN GENERALE
Nella pagina dedicata alla collana, presente in ogni pubblicazione, è dichiarato il processo di revisione a cui il volume è stato sottoposto.
L’editore accetta senza riserve la valutazione di ogni Comitato Scientifico.
